Alternative Book Group: The Queen's Gambit

Join us for an evening discussion of Walter Tevis’s novel The Queen’s Gambit, a coming-of-age story of a young chess prodigy, Beth Harmon. Chronicling Beth’s childhood living in an orphanage, her rise as a triumphant Grandmaster, and her personal struggles as she feels the pressure increase to compete for the U.S. Chess Open, Tevis’s tale is a captivating page-turner.

Walter Tevis (1928 - 1984) was an American novelist and short story writer. Throughout his life, Tevis wrote more than two dozen short stories that were widely published and three of his novels have been adapted into films, including The Hustler, starring Paul Newman, and The Man Who Fell to Earth, starring David Bowie.
