The World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) celebrates one of the world’s oldest and best-loved games through vibrant, engaging exhibitions and creative programming. A not-for-profit, collecting institution situated in the heart of Saint Louis, the WCHOF houses both the US and World Chess Halls of Fame, which honor the accomplishments of the game’s finest players.

The organization presents exhibitions that explore the history of the game, as well as its remarkable impact on arts and culture. These unique shows and programs are designed to appeal to both the chess novice and expert, defying expectations and enhancing knowledge of the game. Along with those of its sister organization, the Saint Louis Chess Club and Scholastic Center, the WCHOF’s activities have distinguished Saint Louis as a national and international chess destination.

The World Chess Hall of Fame is the premier chess facility in the country and one of the best in the world. Our 6,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art chess center features a world-class tournament hall, classroom, library, and casual play area.

Is there an admission fee to visit the museum?

Nope! Admission is free for all visitors, though donations are appreciated to support exhibitions and programming.

Do I need to be a member to visit?

No membership is required! The museum is open to the public, free, and anyone can visit to explore the exhibits.

Where can I park during my visit to the World Chess Hall of Fame?

The World Chess Hall of Fame is located in the heart of Saint Louis’ Central West End neighborhood. Metered on-street parking is available (enforced Monday-Saturday from 8 am – 7 pm), as well as a paid lot adjacent to Kingside Diner, which is located at 4651 Maryland Avenue, and at a parking garage adjacent to the Schlafly Branch of the Saint Louis Public Library, which is located at 225 N. Euclid Avenue. (Please refrain from parking in restricted zones, alleyways, or residential neighborhoods.)
