Join us for a concert of flamenco music and dance from southern Spain featuring masters of the genre, Ensemble Ibérica. Mirroring the history of flamenco by borrowing from American jazz, Cuban music, and contemporary dance, Ensemble Ibérica pushes the envelope of this familiar standard and moves forward with the influence of these outside sources, creating a beautiful union of tradition and originality.
Beau Bledsoe is a stylistically eclectic musician who performs and records classical, jazz, and folkloric music from around the world as he seeks to integrate different cultures with diverse audiences. Beau is currently the Artistic Director and Founder of Ensemble Ibérica. Melinda Hedgecorth spent the last 14 years in one of the capital cities of flamenco dance: Sevilla, Spain. She has been especially influenced by studies with flamenco prodigies of our day such as Israel Galván, Mercedes Ruíz, Belén Maya, Isabel Bayón, and La Moneta among many others. Coleen Dieker started playing the piano when she was four years old and violin when she was seven. She has been singing all her life. After many years of classical training, she attended Berklee College of Music and studied piano performance, improvising, listening, arranging, and recording. Michael McClintock is a guitarist with a background in multiple styles of music including classical, flamenco, Brazilian, and jazz. Since graduating from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, Michael has continued his education at the Institute of the Superior Arts in Havana, Cuba, studying the Cuban tres.
