Join W. Mark Akin as he presents a classical guitar program exploring unique and unconventional techniques composers have used to convey specific ideas. From guided improvisations, wild percussive techniques, and alternate tunings, this program explores methods outside the realm of what is considered “normal” classical guitar. From Russia and the Middle East to the vast expanse of the cosmos, this program transports the listener with all the various soundscapes the guitar has to offer.
Award-winning classical guitarist W. Mark Akin is a Saint Louis-based musician who has engaged audiences across the country with his dynamic on-stage presence and musicality. He has won prizes in numerous competitions including the Artist Presentation Society competition. He teaches at Washington University, is a Teaching Artist with St. Louis Classical guitar, and hosts the radio program “Inside Classical Guitar” on Classic 107.3.
