Paper Chess Sets with Kacey Cowdery

Join us on Facebook Live to learn how to design your own chess set with fiber artist Kacey Cowdery! Cowdery, whose work is on display as August's Featured Chess Set, will show viewers how to transform a humble sheet of paper into a playable chess set, in addition to an added of challenge of embellishing your set with basic sewing and beading techniques.

Supplies needed:

  • cardstock or heavier paper
  • 3-4 sheets of copy paper
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • eraser (non-smudging is ideal)
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • playing cards or images of faces for reference
  • embroidery floss or sewing thread
  • embroidery or sewing needle
  • glass seed beads

Saint Louis-based fiber artist Kacey Cowdery earned her BFA at Maryville University, majoring in Interior Design. Her transition from garments to fiber art led to art quilts and drawing with thread. Kacey teaches yarn arts at JoAnn Stores and fiber art at the Shepherd Center’s “Needlework Society.” She is currently a member of SAQA, Missouri Fiber Artists, and the St. Louis Artists’ Guild, among others.
