Pianist Polina Osetinskaya in Recital at Wash U

The World Chess Hall of Fame, in partnership with WashU Music, presents internationally acclaimed pianist Polina Osetinskaya. Trained at the Moscow Conservatory under the legendary Vera Gornostaeva, Osetinskaya has performed on the world’s major stages, including Vienna’s Musikverein, London’s Barbican Center, and Rome’s Teatro Argentina. As a bestselling author and voice for peace following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, her performances were famously canceled by the Russian government.

Join Osetinskaya at Washington University’s E. Desmond Lee Concert Hall for “The Art of Transcription,” featuring new imaginings of masterpieces by Bach and Tchaikovsky. This will be an unforgettable evening of music from one of the world’s finest living musicians!

Music Series: These Songs For You, A Donny Hathaway Tribute

Experience the soulful magic of a Donny Hathaway tribute with performances by Brian Owens and Chuck Flowers. Immerse yourself in a night of timeless melodies and heartfelt renditions as these talented artists pay homage to the soul legend by covering his iconic hits.

Music and love define the artistry of singer, songwriter, and dedicated community activist Brian Owens. These qualities radiate from all of his work, including his duet with five-time Grammy-winning and legendary vocalist Michael McDonald on SOUL OF FERGUSON and the heartfelt interpretation of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” which Owens filmed and recorded with his father, Thomas Owens. Chuck Flowers is a veteran singer and entertainer in the Saint Louis area. He is a featured singer with one-man shows at local venues, including the National Blues Museum, Joe’s Cafe, The Gaslight Theater, and Blue Strawberry.

Sound Moves – Number Twelve Chess Piano Concert in Three Movements

Celebrate the closing of the WCHOF’s exhibition, Sound Moves: Where Music Meets Chess, with a unique performance using a custom-made chessboard piano at Saint Louis University’s Sinquefield State Room on January 18, 2024! The instrument, created by Dutch visual artist Guido van der Werve, is a full-sized, playable chessboard with each square controlling a different note, translating the playthrough of a chess match composed by Russian Grandmaster Leonid Yudasin into a mesmerizing musical composition with every move. 

Saint Louis-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and composer Adam Maness will perform Number Twelve Chess Piano Concert in Three Movements with van der Werve on the chessboard, supported by musicians from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Darwin Aquino. Before the performance, guests will enjoy an artist talk led by Saint Louis University professor and co-curator of Sound Moves, Dr. Bradley Bailey, in addition to complimentary valet, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres at this one-of-a-kind, limited-ticket event.

Chamber Project St. Louis is a collaborative chamber music ensemble that celebrates the dynamic interactions between all members of the music-making process, from composers to performers to audience members. Weaving together music by living composers and identities historically excluded from the stage alongside historically celebrated works through narrated, themed concerts, Chamber Project disrupts the gatekeeping practices that have limited access and representation to generations of classical artists as well as creating a welcoming and warm concert experience for all types of listeners.

Music Series: A Jazz Evening in Paris by Janet Evra (SOLD OUT)

Join Janet Evra for “An Evening in Paris,” featuring French jazz favorites by Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Henri Betti, and Pink Martini, along with her own original music.

Janet Evra is an international jazz singer, bassist, and bandleader from England now based in Saint Louis. Evra performs on premiere stages in the USA and Europe and has collaborated with Grammy-winning jazz musicians Randy Brecker, Jeff Coffin, Roy Wooten, Taylor Eigsti, and others. Evra is signed to Plum Jazz and was a 2010-2011 Artist in Residence at The Kranzberg Arts Foundation.

Music Series: Brahms’ Mighty Piano Quintet (SOLD OUT)

Join WCHOF Music Director Brian Woods and musicians from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for an evening of drama, passion, and romanticism with Johannes Brahms’ famous Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. 34. Often regarded as the “crown” of Brahms’ chamber music, the Piano Quintet is a towering achievement of the classical repertoire, offering each performer moments to shine with beautiful melodies and virtuosic displays.

WCHOF Music Director and concert pianist Brian Woods is proud to partner with musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra to present an unforgettable chamber music program. Violinists Hannah Ji and Shawn Weil, violist Chris Tantillo, and cellist Bjorn Ranheim represent the finest St. Louis area musicians, each a compelling soloist and collaborator. Music Series: Opera Theatre of St. Louis’ Season Preview (SOLD OUT)

Anita has become a staple on the St. Louis music scene, blending jazz, blues, and R&B music, creating a gumbo of art in her music.
