Explore art in poetry in a writing workshop with Caylin Capra-Thomas! Taking prompts from the WCHOF's current exhibitions, T. S. Eliot: A Game of Chess andSounds Moves: Where Music Meets ChessCapra-Thomas will discuss the poetic mode of ekphrasis, or writing poetry about art, and apply it to your writings. This two-hour generative writing workshop is suitable for everyone from the casually curious to the seriously experienced, and everyone will have the opportunity to share their work with the group.
Caylin Capra-Thomasis the author of the poetry collection, Iguana Iguana, named a 2022 Best New Poetry Book by the New York Public Library, and the chapbook, Inside My Electric City. Her poems and nonfiction have appeared in venues like Pleiades, Copper Nickel, New England Review, 32 Poems, Mississippi Review, and elsewhere, and her scholarship was recently published in the T. S. Eliot StudiesAnnual. Therecipient of fellowships and residencies from the Vermont Studio Center, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Studios of Key West, she was the 2018-2020 poet-in-residence at Idyllwild Arts Academy. She lives in Columbia, Missouri, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in English and creative writing.
