Alternative Book Group: Unicorn Variations by Roger Zelazny

Join us for a dive into the Unicorn Variations, a collection of sci-fi short stories by Roger Zelazny. The title story, “Unicorn Variation,” tells the tale of a chess match that takes place between a man and a unicorn in a saloon which becomes much more than just a game, with the state of the human race on the line.

Roger Zelazny (1937-1995) was an American writer and poet best known for his science fiction short stories and novels. Often referred to as a part of the New Wave literary movement, his writing frequently incorporated characters portrayed from mythology, and is cited by Neil Gaiman as having the largest influence on his work.
