Composer Series: Joseph Haydn: Father of the String Quartet

Join us for a musical exploration of the works of Joseph Haydn—the father of the string quartet—featuring members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Extremely prolific in establishing the conventions and structures of string quartet writing that still exist today, Joseph Haydn created more than 60 works for the medium, which elevated it to a beloved status in Western culture and turned it into a musical genre all its own.
