Composer Series: Robert Schumann

Enjoy a performance of Robert Schumann’s works—a giant of the Romantic era—by members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Schumann, considered one of Europe’s finest pianists in his youth, suffered a hand injury which ended his performing career and propelled him into composition. Though his output initially focused on music for piano, he went on to create a vast body of work including concertos, symphonies, chamber music, vocal songs and choral works. This performance will feature Schumann’s works for piano and strings, most notably his Fantasy Pieces and Piano Quartet. Revered for their beauty and lyricism, these works are beloved by audiences around the world.
