The Program: Thanksgiving Arts & Crafts

Gobble up some fun with Thanksgiving-themed arts and crafts! Attendees will create festive decorations and keepsakes to celebrate the season with loved ones. This activity takes place within our art gallery setting in Saint Louis, where creativity meets culture. Supplies are provided, so just bring your holiday spirit and creativity. And while you’re here, play some chess!

All supplies for this self-led activity are included, and no chess experience is needed to join in!

The Program: Drawing Workshop with Lauren Darling

Master Form and Shape in the Galleries

Develop your art skills in this specialized drawing workshop led by instructor Lauren Darling. You will learn the art of form, shape, and more as you sketch in our vibrant exhibition spaces. Guests are invited to capture the photographic figures on display or find inspiration in the wide array of sports and chess memorabilia and artifacts throughout the gallery.

Whether you are a seasoned artist or picking up a pencil for the first time, this session offers a relaxed environment to sharpen your observational skills. Supplies and complimentary refreshments from Brennan’s will be provided, and no chess experience is needed to join in!

The Intersection of Strategy and Culture.

This creative program is offered in connection with our current exhibition, Game Plan: The Strategy of Chess & Sports. This exhibition features over 100 artifacts, including vintage equipment and sports-themed chess sets, that highlight the shared tactical evolution between the chessboard and the playing field. This event promotes chess education by demonstrating how the visual geometry of the game and sporting culture influences artistic expression through the study of diverse artifacts and imagery.

The Program: Create Your Own Sports Keychain

Enjoy a fun self-led activity where you can customize your own keychain to represent your favorite sport. Visit our Play & Create Space to design a unique accessory using baubles, beads, and even chess pieces to attach to your keys, backpack, or gym bag! All supplies for this self-led activity are included, and no chess experience is needed to join in!

The Program: Design Your Own Custom Baseball Cap

Hit a home run with your creativity at our museum, where you can customize your very own custom baseball cap using a variety of iron-on patches. We’ll provide all the supplies you need, including plain baseball caps. However, if you have a favorite hat that you’d like to personalize, feel free to bring it along!

After you’ve created your one-of-a-kind cap, take a walk-off victory lap through our newest exhibition. Refreshments from Brennan’s will be provided to keep the inspiration flowing as you explore.

The Program: Poetic Device—Make a Printed Flexigon with Central Print

A Printmaking, Poetry, and Math-Fused Workshop

Join Central Print for a printmaking, poetry, and math-fused workshop inspired by Square Poem: The Bishop by Nkosi Nkululeko, currently on view at the World Chess Hall of Fame & Galleries. We will be making a flexigon—a folded book that opens up to reveal a new arrangement of words and images, allowing the artist to play with multiple meanings. Participants will create the book’s content by printing with an assortment of imagery and type from Central Print’s Collection.

All supplies for this self-led activity are included, and no chess experience is needed to join in!

Duck, Duck, Chess!

Get ready for some quacky fun! Come decorate your own rubber ducky to use in a game of Duck Chess, a delightful and approachable variant of chess. All the supplies are included for this activity in our Play and Create Space, which is part of our current exhibition, Chess Variants: Transforming Tradition. No chess experience is needed to join in! This is a self-led activity, so you can spend as much or as little time as you’d like creating a playable masterpiece for the board.

Free for WCHOF members, students, seniors, and military personnel.
