Join us for a rollicking piano performance of boogie-woogie, blues, stride, and ragtime! Pianist Greg Rahn will take you on a musical journey and discuss how contributions from early American pianists like Scott Joplin influenced the music that followed, including jazz and the music of the rent party era. Greg will be performing Joplin pieces as well as original compositions from his debut album Rent Party, which is a nod to the pianists and piano styles that evolved out of this era.
Greg Rahn is an American piano player, composer, and educator. As an in-demand musician, he has performed with a diverse group of artists ranging from rock guitar legend Ronnie Montrose, blues guitar legends Chris Cain and Jimmy Johnson, and Latin jazz artists Pete Escovedo and Ray Obiedo. His debut album Rent Party is full of compositions that are dripping with honky-tonk, ragtime, blues, and blazing boogie-woogie influences from pianists like Professor Longhair, Pete Johnson, and Dr. John.
