World Chess Hall of Fame on KDHX

World Chess Hall of Fame on KDHX

On January 23, World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) Director Susan Barrett and Vice President of Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs Shannon Bailey were special guests for Nancy Kranzberg’s weekly Arts Interview on 88.1 KDHX.

Barrett and Bailey discussed the WCHOF’s inaugural exhibitions: OUT OF THE BOX: Artists Play Chess and Chess Masterpieces: Highlights from the Dr. George and Vivian Dean Collection, on view from September 9, 2011 to February 12, 2012.

Saint Louis is the fourth home of the World Chess Hall of Fame. In discussing how it differs from previous iterations, Barrett “We’ve expanded it. It’s not just a Hall of Fame proper…we also have an additional 10,000 square feet where we’ll have rotating shows, just like an everyday art museum. And what we’re trying to show [is] how chess fits in culturally and multiculturally—through art, through fashion, through music, through all these other forms. So if you don’t know anything about chess, you’ll find something that you like.”
