The World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) is partnering with the legendary children’s museum, The Magic House, for the upcoming exhibition Kings, Queens & Castles. The exhibit, both an installation and a playground, and is geared towards familiarizing kids between the ages of 3 and 11 with the game of chess.

Among the top 100 international players, only two are women. Similarly, only 31 of the 1,479 grandmasters in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) are women. Only a select few players ever reach the rank of grandmaster; therefore the issue is not female representation at the top, but rather it is a lack of women participating

Over the weekend of September 12, the World Chess Hall of Fame and the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis hosted a booth at LouKids, an area of kid-friendly activities available for families attending LouFest. Booths provided both kids and parents activities ranging from face painting and yoga to chess-related crafts and games.

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis held its annual ALS Benefit Tournament last weekend to commemorate the life of Waldo Odak, a well-known member of the Chess Club.
